of massachusetts, connecticut and the state of rhode island could look at over six inches of snow with areas possibly seeing a foot of snow. so again the chance of seeing more snow from this next storm system is increasing here. it is pulling in a lot of moisture from the gulf of mexico. that is one of the reasons why we think we could see a little more than originally anticipated. right now it is producing snow across areas in chicago, northern parts of the state of indiana that into michigan. on the southern end of the storm system we have showers and thunderstorms in louisiana, mississippi and tennessee. eventually both of these areas will be coming together and moving towards the northeast. i do quickly want to point out between these areas we're actually seeing freezing rain falling early this morning across places in arkansas and northern texas. please drive carefully out there. that is outside the city of memphis as well. western portions of state of tennessee dealing with possible icing on the roadways. otherwise a number of winter weather advisories issued for the state of new jerse
in connecticut is fresh on everybody's minds. what were your biggest stories of the year? >> it feels so obvious, but i think the presidential election has to be on the list. something that we all followed very, very closely. so much happened. the debates were obviously interesting, covering the convention. it happens once every four years. incredibly consequential. i think it says a lot about what presidential elections will look like. we learned a lot about the changing demographics of this country. >> exactly. looking forward to the inauguration coming up in the new year. i think for all of us, i think around here certainly we've covered superstorm sandy. this was such a tragic event. i mean, a storm like this has not been seen here in this -- for centuries. i think that, you know, obviously the devastating effects that it continues to have on so many areas from the rockaways to new york to connecticut and long island. i was up in the helicopter. seeing that devastation first hand, when you see the scope of it, it's just enormous. >> this year was marked by a lot of tragedy from aurora, bengh

in parts of connecticut and rhode island. so this is going to be plowable, shovelable snow early in the morning as this low pressure center works its way up across new england. it is getting closer to the coast than the original path indicated, because of the westward track we are looking for heavier bands of snow as far north as coastal maine, you are likely to see accumulations of up to a foot of snow by sunday morning. tracking the low, one of the things it will do is bomb out and what that means is as it's off shore, the low pressure center will deepen and strengthen tonight, that will enhance the winds and increase the snowfall rates. meaning tonight into parts of massachusetts, you will be seeing the snow come down one to two inches per hour. that will limit visibility and make travel treacherous to the overnight and early morning hours. by the time we get to sunday morning, the snow moves off the coast of maine. we will see the heavy snow with on the border of canada. it's looking to be a short storm, but a big burst of snow. right in the region, south of boston. it's a go

to all the people in newtown, connecticut. this was an horrific series of events. second of all, the major problem that i have as a geneticist is that it's impossible to gain much information with the sample size of one. so what you are looking at is one person's dna, and you're trying to say that it's different than other people. but you only have a sample size of one. >> would it be helpful, do you think, to look at the dna of other shooters of those from previous mass shootings? >> well, again, the problem is, we have probably less than five or even ten people that we're talking about. when studies -- accurate genetic studies are done on a whole population, we look for hundreds of different people, and you have to show a strong correlation with that. and the second problem would be what are we trying to look for? i mean, we're going -- the whole idea is you're going in with the notion of looking for something. and that is simply not the way science is done. science is done where you go in expecting things to be the same. we have a hypothesis. and then you try to disprove or p
